During November our Wellness Wednesday messages have been focusing on what is possible and establishing the conditions that make what’s possible possible. Last week we focused on commitment as one of those necessary conditions. When we are committed and persevere, incredible results are possible.
In our trainings at Top 20, we have identified helping others succeed as an essential condition if we want to achieve what is possible.
“We succeed at our very best only when we help others succeed.”
James C. Collins
The word that best describes this is love…sincerely acting in the best interest of another.
This occurs:
- When a father changes his baby’s diaper in the middle of the night
- When a teen visits an elderly person in a nursing home
- When forgiveness is given after a hurtful word or action
Love is present in every act of patience, every act of kindness, and every act of listening. It is the glue that keeps the human family together and makes what is possible possible.
Jerry Griffin, superintendent of Malone Central Schools in upstate New York, is a longtime friend of Top 20. Tom and Kevin, Top 20 trainers and hosts of The Inside Ride: A Top 20 Training Podcast, interviewed Jerry for Episode 14. In the interview Jerry shared a phrase from his mentor Margaret Garrison. Each day during school announcements Margaret would say,
“Remember to be good to each other.”
Being good to each other is the essence of love. When we live and work with people who are being good to each other, incredible results are possible.
What does the world need now? Listen to Dionne Warwick and be inspired to nurture the condition that makes what’s possible possible.
May you and those you care about experience the power of love during this season of Thanksgiving.
