Making What’s Possible Possible continues today with Commitment. Last week we looked at the element of having a dream to make what’s possible possible. This week, we commit.
Although we don’t know what’s possible,
we can establish the conditions that make what’s possible possible.
One of those essential conditions in attaining what’s possible is commitment. This foundational condition is evident to those who grow bamboo trees.

Imagine planting, watering, and nurturing a bamboo tree for four years without seeing any significant growth. It would be easy to become frustrated, conclude that you are wasting your time, and give up. But to those who bring commitment to the task, the bamboo tree will grow 90 feet in the next year.

Although we didn’t see much growth above ground in the first four years, a root system was developing underground that made incredible growth possible in year five. All of which would be lost without commitment.
Commitment is the state or quality of
being dedicated to a cause or purpose.
An aspect of commitment is perseverance…continuing a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.
Let’s consider two things:
1. What might interfere with our commitment or perseverance?
A. We might quit because we fear making mistakes or failing.
B. We might pull back because we fear the opinions of other people.
2. What might encourage us to stay committed or persevere?
A. We can persevere because we have seen others succeed due to their commitment or even remember our own experiences in which we have found success through perseverance.
B. We can keep going because we are motivated by the support of others.
Consider a situation in which you are trying to attain what is possible. Assess your level of commitment or perseverance in this situation. Staying committed just might get you to year five when something possible is possible.
All the best to you and yours from our Top 20 team,…Tom, Willow, and Kevin
