As we continue our Wellness Wednesday focus on creating connections so as to meet our desire for belonging, we need to consider a basic need of all human beings. Think of it this way. Every person goes through life carrying the following imaginary sign:
Yes, everyone has a need to be understood. We can sometimes confuse this with agreement. I don’t need you to agree with me; I just need you to understand me. When understanding happens, connection happens.
While doing this series of Wellness Wednesdays on connection, I came upon Larry C. Rosen’s TEDxsalinas talk on The Secret to Understanding Humans.

- How understanding the motives of someone you encounter leads to a more meaningful connection.
- How not understanding someone’s motives prevents a meaningful connection from taking place.
