Wow!! Again, Wow!! Did you see the opening ceremony of the Olympics? What a celebration of our humanity and the incredible and brilliant gifts within the human race. Yes, we are capable of ugliness and hatred, but this was a celebration of our best as a world.
The opening ceremony was a testament of:
- Our physical power in athletes from around the world who will break records in various sporting events.
- Our mental capacity demonstrated by incredible technological feats such as 1,800 drones synchronized in the form of the globe hovering above Tokyo.
- Musical and artistic talent shared in the young voices and renowned singers and artists who displayed beauty and meaning through song and dance.
- Team and the power of working together…and not just the athletic teams of nations but the team of people who created and carried out the entire opening ceremony.
- Human history as an event which began in 776 BC and continues 2,797 years later.
- Our shared humanity, diversity and belonging as we watched citizens from our own countries of origin parade into the stadium.
- Hope and peace as we connected with our best selves and what is possible as shared in John Lennon’s song Imagine:
Imagine all the people living life in peace
You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will be as one.
Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger a brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.
Maybe as the games begin and we hear the chant of “USA…USA” those letters will have two meanings. They will represent our United States of America as well as US All united worldwide as one human family.
Imagine that.
From our Top 20 team…Kevin Brennan, Willow Sweeney, and Tom Cody…as we imagine the possibilities in small and big ways.
