Have you developed any negative mental habits? The negative mental habit that most often gets in my way of being effective is my need to be right. Before I was mindful of its presence, my need to be right would often result in my blaming someone else for things not going my way. It would get in the way of developing the potential between another person and myself.
Although I’d like to eliminate the need to be right from my life, I can’t seem to shake it. However, what I have learned to do is to have it activate a more productive mental habit…curiosity. When I become mindful that the need to be right is getting activated in me, I now make a conscious choice to be curious. Because of that I am more often effective and able to bring about a positive difference.
So the next time the need to be right manifests in you, stay curious.
